Venue: Punakha Dzong, Punakha
The Punakha Tsechu is a religious and social festival held annually in Bhutan’s Punakha district. Tsechus are important events in Bhutan, and the Punakha Tsechu is one of the most popular and well-attended festivals in the country. The festival is celebrated for three days, typically in late February or early March, and features a variety of traditional Bhutanese dances, music, and other cultural performances.
During the festival, monks and laypeople dress in traditional clothing and perform sacred masked dances known as cham. These dances depict various Buddhist deities and stories from Buddhist mythology, and are believed to bring blessings and good luck to those who witness them.
